Florida Governor Boosts My Safe Florida Home Program

Florida‘s My Safe Florida Home Program Receives $200M Boost, $30M Reserved for Condos

According to CBS News, Florida‘s Governor, Ron DeSantis has given a big thumbs-up to My Safe Florida Home Program that’ll help Americans strengthen their homes and save money on insurance. This plan called the My Safe Florida Home grant program got a $200 million boost. It’s super popular because it helps Americans especially those with lower incomes make their homes tougher against things like hurricanes. Here’s the deal: the My Safe Florida Home Program checks out homes and gives grants up to $10,000 so Americans can make upgrades. These upgrades not only make homes safer but also qualify Americans for discounts on their property insurance. And now the My Safe Florida Home Program is also going to help Americans who live in condos with an extra $30 million set aside for that. Jimmy Patronis who’s in charge of money stuff in Florida has been pushing for more funding for the My Safe Florida Home Program. He thinks around 20,000 Americans could benefit from this new money. He’s worried about hurricanes and wants Americans to be ready because in Florida it’s not a matter of if a big storm will hit but when. The new rules say they’ll help older Americans with lower incomes first then other low-income Americans and finally older moderate-income homeowners. Once the money’s gone they won’t start another waiting list unless the big bosses in the government say so.

The My Safe Florida Home Program has been around since 2006 born after some really bad hurricanes in 2004 and 2005. Back then tons of Florida homeowners got hit hard losing lots of money. The government started this program to help out but they haven’t always had enough money for it and now they’re giving it a boost to make sure more Americans can benefit. And guess what? The My Safe Florida Home Program has already saved Americans a bunch of money. On average homeowners who got discounts saved almost $1,000 on their insurance. That’s a big deal! Now they’re also going to help out condo owners. Condo associations will have to chip in some money but for every $2 they put in the program will match with $1, up to $175,000 per association. Governor DeSantis says he’s on board with this plan and will make sure the money is there in the budget. So it looks like Florida is getting serious about keeping homes safe and helping Americans save some cash on insurance.
