Her trial lasted a month and she was found guilty. Her defense team asked for probation and help saying she didn’t have enough experience and the work environment was unsafe. But the prosecutors said she was careless and asked for the toughest punishment.

During the trial Gutierrez Reed said she didn’t do anything wrong blaming her lack of experience and not having enough help. But the prosecutors said she didn’t check the guns properly and didn’t do anything when the gun misfired which led to someone dying and another person getting hurt. When the judge gave the sentence he agreed with the prosecutors saying Gutierrez Reed‘s actions had terrible consequences. As Gutierrez Reed was taken away everyone in the courtroom felt sad about what happened. The ‘Rust‘ case shows how important it is to have strict safety rules on movie sets and for people in charge to be responsible. Even though the trial is over this sad event will make people think more about how to keep everyone safe while making movies.
