Compensation for Victims of Roper St. Francis Healthcare Data Breach is Offered in a Proposed Settlement

A $1.5 million settlement has been agreed upon by Roper St. Francis Healthcare in response to allegations of cybersecurity failings

As stated in The US Sun article, a proposed deal might compensate thousands of Americans impacted by a data breach at Roper St. Francis Healthcare, a noteworthy development. The case was filed in the Ninth Judicial Court of South Carolina and is related to a phishing event that occurred in October 2020 and resulted in the compromise of about 190,000 people’s protected health information and personally-identifying information. Members of the class action lawsuit claim that Roper failed to implement cybersecurity safeguards to protect consumer data. As stated in the Notice of Class Action on the settlement website, Roper St. Francis has consented to a $1.5 million settlement to address the claims, allowing both parties to avoid the cost and distraction of protracted litigation. Despite this, the company denies any wrongdoing. Notably, no party has received a favorable ruling from the Court.
