Texas Man Accused of Kidnapping Wife at Gunpoint Leads Police on Dramatic Car Pursuit

Texas Man Faces Multitude of Charges After Allegedly Kidnapping Wife at Gunpoint and Leading Police on Car Chase

Police in Texas detained a 37-year-old guy on suspicion of kidnapping his wife at gunpoint and escorting them on a car pursuit. According to reports, Martin Severiano Vela broke into a house on March 30 and threatened the homeowners before robbing his wife at gunpoint. Later, witnesses claimed to have seen Vela on the bonnet of a Chrysler 300 at a nearby convenience store, where a woman was screaming. After the wife drove away and escaped, Vela was apprehended by the police following his wreck and subsequent hiding in a shed. Vela is charged with several counts, including driving infractions, assault, and aggravated kidnapping. A $212,000 bond has been set for Vela.

Texas Man Faces Multiple Charges and High Bond After Dramatic Kidnapping and Police Chase

As a result of Vela’s activities, there was a significant police response to the claims of his wife’s kidnapping and subsequent escape. Vela drove erratically during the ensuing chase, crashed, and tried to flee from the police. Among other things, aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon is one of the counts against him. His bond has been set at more than $200,000. Vela’s legal circumstances were further complicated when it was discovered that he was the subject of current warrants from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office.
