Iran International’s Pouria Zeraati Stabbing Triggers Counterterrorism Investigation Amidst Iran’s Denial

British police have opened a counterterrorism inquiry into Iran’s involvement in the brutal stabbing death of Iranian journalist Pouria Zeraati, who was exiled to London. Zeraati is a television anchor for Iran International. He was attacked by some thugs, however he is not in critical condition. Although Tehran disputes any involvement, worries have been voiced because of threats made against Iran International journalists in the past. Seven members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were sanctioned by the UK government last year after Iranian agents tried to pay a people smuggler to kill two journalists for Iran International. Following the incident, demands have surfaced for more journalistic protection as well as accountability for Iran’s activities.

Iran International’s Pouria Zeraati Stabbing Sparks Counterterrorism Probe Amid Tehran’s Denial

British police have opened a counterterrorism investigation after Iran was linked to the horrific stabbing death of Iranian journalist Pouria Zeraati outside his London residence. Despite being attacked by a bunch of guys, Zeraati, a television anchor for Iran International, is not in critical condition. Concerns have been raised because of threats made against Iran International journalists in the past, even if Tehran denies involvement. The UK government sanctioned seven members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps last year after Iranian spies tried to pay a people smuggler to kill two journalists for Iran International. After the attack, there have been demands for greater journalistic protection as well as responsibility for Iran’s conduct.
