Delays due to FHSA’s New Initiatives
As tax season unfolds, many Canadians are experiencing delays in receiving their refunds. Particularly, individuals who have opened their First Home Savings Accounts (FHSAs) in 2023 are having processing issues, as reported by the Global News. The FHSA is supposed to be a way for homeowners to save with tax benefits however, currently, it is leading them to administrative hurdles at the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
There are reports on Reddit that say individuals are experiencing a three-week delay or more in receiving their notices of assessment from CRA. This was confirmed by Marie-Claude Bibeau’s communications director, Marriane Dandrurand. In a statement, she said that this can be the case with new initiatives at the beginning of tax season, but she also said that the issues should now be resolved.
