All About Credit Card Skimming

Using a credit card is easy and popular, but it is a target for theft through credit card skimming.

The SNAP benefits program in Cuyahoga County has reported over 400 incidents of credit card skimming.

Skimmers, the people who do credit card skimming, steal data from card readers and target vulnerable people in the community.

To prevent credit card skimming from happening, check card readers for skimmers and change your PIN regularly.

If you suspect credit card skimming, contact the Cuyahoga County Public Assistance Fraud Hotline.

According to a published article by SmartNews, keep your benefits card locked when not in use by using the ConnectEBT app.

The Ongoing Problems Regarding Credit Card Skimming

In a published article by ABC7 New York, a man named Tuzzo noticed a card skimming device on a key fob at a store.

He recognized the device from YouTube videos, pulled it off, and held onto it until the police arrived. Customers are grateful for his awareness but upset that their information could have been stolen.

Some are now hesitant to use their ATM or credit cards at the store. The owners of Dollar Tree have not yet commented on the situation.
