Vancouver Man Sentenced To Federal Prison After Pleading Guilty To Wire Fraud And Selling Low-Quality Protective Equipment

A Vancouver Man’s Criminal Case

Vancouver man Jeffrey Meining was sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison for selling low-quality ballistic protective equipment from China to U.S. law enforcement agencies and the military.

The Vancouver man lied about the products being from the U.S. and falsified safety testing results.

According to a published article by The Columbian, the Vancouver man pleaded guilty to wire fraud and will have three years of supervised release after serving his sentence.

In a published article by KOIN.com, from 2016 to 2022, the owner of BulletProofIT, the Vancouver man, sold products like helmets and body armor to law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and the U.S. Military.

Despite marketing them as U.S.-made, they were made in China. Through a contract with the General Services Administration, the Vancouver man sold over $1 million in supplies, but $400,000 of those products did not meet safety standards.

The Vancouver man also falsified safety test results when products failed. Aside from these, the Vancouver man also sold helmets to the Mesa Police Department and the U.S. Air Force. Such helmets were said to not meet National Institute of Justice standards.
