170M Users Warned Amid $7.4M Lobbying Efforts

According to the report of  the National Pulse, in a big twist TikTok a popular social media app got its American users all fired up to stop new laws that might shut it down in the US. TikTok sent out messages to its users telling them Congress might make a move to ban the app. They warned that this could hurt the freedom of speech for their 170 million American users. They also told people how they could speak up to their lawmakers directly which was a big step for TikTok efforts to change the law.

The law led by Representatives Mike Gallagher and Raja Krishnamoorthi got a thumbs-up from the House Energy and Commerce Committee with everyone voting for it. This law is about making sure apps owned by countries that don’t like the US like China can cause any trouble. The American Civil Liberties Union thinks it might mess with people rights to speak freely making the whole issue even more complicated. With both sides sticking to their guns TikTok future in the US is up in the air.
