Johnson Faces Consecutive Terms for Aggravated Child Abuse

According to True Crime Daily, Alan Johnson who was already serving a life sentence for causing the tragic death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son in 2018, got an extra 50 years in prison. The Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy shared on February 14 that Johnson got 25 years for hurting the child badly and another 25 years for not taking care of the child properly. These new sentences are added to the life sentence he got in January for causing the child’s tragic death due to severe abuse.

Toddler’s Severe Injuries Prompt Further Legal Action

The incident happened in October 2018 when Johnson was looking after the toddler while his mom was at work. Within two hours the child was rushed to the hospital in really bad shape. Doctors found that the little one had serious injuries like a broken skull, many broken ribs and bleeding in the head. Even though Johnson said the injuries were from playing, evidence showed something different. Johnson’s explanations didn’t match up with what investigators found during their search of his home. They discovered a diaper covered in the child’s blood suggesting the child had been hurt for a while before anyone called for help. The court’s decision to give Johnson more years in prison reflects how serious and heartbreaking the situation is, bringing some form of justice for the tragic death of the innocent child.
