High Volume of Returns and Credits
Delayed eService System and Tax Season Start
According to WZZM 13, the Michigan Department of Treasury‘s eService system is slower due to a high volume of 2023 returns and checks for the 2022 Michigan Earned Income Tax Credit. eService System has caused delays in updating return information. Some returns couldn’t be processed until February 13th due to specific tax credits and the tax return season started later this year. Despite the delays, officials assure taxpayers that returns, refunds, and checks are being processed as usual.

Michigan Department of Treasury has processed about 531,000 tax returns totaling approximately $338 million. They’ve also issued around 450,000 additional checks for the 2022 Tax Income Credit. Some users have experienced difficulties with TurboTax but the department clarifies that this is TurboTax‘s issue, not theirs and an eService System software update is underway. Taxpayers are advised to use the eService system to track their refunds with e-filed returns taking three to four weeks and paper returns taking six to eight weeks to process. Staying informed through the department’s app and social media is recommended.
