Memphis Man is convicted of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse after the state presented a rebuttal to his mental state issue. He was pretending to be ill and is exaggerating mental health symptoms.
Claim of Not Being In The Right State Of Mind During His Confession 3 Years Ago
A recorded statement of a 32-years-old, Julian Summers, was viewed by the jury during a trial, reported by True Crime Daily. Three years ago, Summers confessed to murdering his 2-year roommate, then 63-years-old, Bruce Jefferies.
However, he offered a different version of what happened the night that Mr. Jefferies died. Summers raised the issue of his mental state at the time of confession, but the state countered it with a witness from West Tennessee Mental Health Institute. The witness vouched Summer’s competency and argued that Summers was just pretending the illness that is exaggerating the symptoms.
The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office announced that the jury deliberated and submitted a verdict convicting Summers of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse.
