Thomas McDowell, a 63-year-old man, received a life sentence in prison for the kidnapping and murder of a 4-year-old named Jessica Gutierrez in 1986. He was concurrently sentenced to life in prison for first-degree burglary, kidnapping, and murder by the magistrate. The investigation into the disappearance of Gutierrez from her residence on South Lake Drive persisted in the eyes of authorities.

In a report True Crime Daily, it said, that the FBI and South Carolina Attorney General’s Office reexamined the case in September 2021, leading to McDowell’s identification as the primary suspect. He was arrested in January 2022, having dated Jessica’s mother, Debra, in 1986. The Gutierrez family continues to seek closure, hoping for McDowell to confess the location of Jessica’s body.

Following a thorough reexamination of the case in September 2021, the FBI and South Carolina Attorney General’s Office identified McDowell as the primary suspect. This led to his arrest in January 2022, providing long-awaited closure for Gutierrez’s family.

Jessica’s mother expressed her desire for McDowell to confess the whereabouts of her daughter’s body, preparing a place for her to be reunited with her family.
