In a devastating turn of events reported by NBC News, a mother from Kansas City is facing allegations of placing her 1-month-old baby in oven causing the infant’s death. Shock and grief grip the community as details of the incident unfold.
Baby In Oven Instead of Crib
According to court records, the mother, in a state of distress, informed the baby’s grandmother of a horrific accident: placing the baby in the oven instead of the crib.
Responding to a report of a non-breathing infant, officers arrived at the scene to find apparent burn wounds on the baby’s body, ultimately declaring her deceased.
Initial investigations suggest that the mother, intending to put her child down for a nap, mistakenly placed her in the oven.

The grandparents, who had left the home earlier that morning, were alerted by the mother’s distress call, finding the unimaginable upon their return.
Detectives executing a search warrant discovered the infant with thermal injuries in the living room, with evidence of melted clothing and burn marks on a blanket.
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker expressed condolences for the tragic loss and emphasized the importance of an appropriate response within the criminal justice system.
