The 17th-year United Way of Greenville County Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is taking appointments. County Volunteer Income Tax Assistance VITA helps low-income people and families prepare their taxes for free in numerous ways.
Free In-Person and Online Tax Assistance for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
You can work with IRS-certified in-person volunteers. These volunteers serve taxpayers earning less than $60,000 throughout the Upstate at nearly 40 locations. You may also file taxes online at MyFreeTaxes.com. Taxpayers under $79,000 can use this option.
GetYourRefund.org/uwgc goes live in March for anybody earning less than $60,000. It requires answering questions, uploading tax documents, and scheduling a call with an IRS-certified tax preparer to finish the tax return.
Visit unitedwaygc.org/vita or call 211 to book County Volunteer Income Tax Assistance VITA in-person appointments. County Volunteer Income Tax Assistance VITA customers can also have their tax return transferred into a Focus Card, a prepaid Visa debit card from Community Financial Resources and U.S. Bank.

United Way’s Vice President of Community Impact, Nalisha Henry, stressed the value of providing free services, noting that many community members cannot afford tax preparation. She also cited the Earned Income Tax Credit, which could provide individuals thousands of dollars and boost the local economy.
By filing almost 130,000 taxes since 2007, County Volunteer Income Tax Assistance VITA has saved over $24 million in preparation expenses. Upstate households have received nearly $175 million in tax credits and refunds from the program.
This effort helps those uninformed of benefits, saving thousands of people millions in filing costs and boosting the local economy.
