This adjustment comes as a response to the persistent calls for higher wages and additional supplements to combat the rising cost of living. Public Servant Salary Increase Alleviating Economic Struggles

The Federal Government of South Africa, acknowledging the crucial role of public servants in the economy, is responding to the scarcity of employment opportunities and a heightened poverty index. With the salary increase, the government aims to better manage the federal cost of living and address the financial challenges faced by public sector workers and their families.

The wage adjustment, a 7.5% increase, is a result of extensive negotiations initiated in 2023. The national treasury, in collaboration with the Public Service Coordinating Council (PSCBC), has outlined the specifics of the increase, taking into account factors like cash allowances, pensionable salary, and the Consumer Price Index linked to the anticipated increases of 2024-25.
