In a daring Mooresville incident, Corey Leazer found himself in handcuffs on Sunday morning after being apprehended in Mecklenburg County. A dramatic chain of events unfolded on Oakridge Farm Highway on a Saturday afternoon when a deputy attempted to halt Leazer’s car.

Corey Leazer’s Wild Pursuit Ends in Mecklenburg Arrest!
Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell explained that the 33-year-old suspect fled when the deputy signaled him to stop. A struggle ensued, with Leazer accelerating his vehicle and dragging the officer for a harrowing 15-20 feet.
To counter the imminent danger, the deputy fired his weapon, but fortunately, Leazer emerged unscathed. The escalating situation prompted a chase into Rowan County, though concerns for speed, traffic, and public safety halted the pursuit.
Sheriff Campbell later located Leazer’s abandoned car in Mecklenburg, triggering an exhaustive night-long search by law enforcement from Mecklenburg and Iredell counties. The fugitive was ultimately apprehended Sunday morning in Mecklenburg and received necessary treatment before being taken to the Iredell County Detention Center.

Faces Serious Charges Following Wild Pursuit and Deputy Struggle!
Leazer is now facing serious charges, including felony assault with a dangerous weapon, escape to elude, resist, obstruct, and delay, along with several driving-related offenses. Notably, no bond was granted due to Leazer’s existing bond for previous convictions.
Despite the intensity of the struggle, the deputy emerged physically unharmed. Given Leazer’s criminal history, the sheriff’s office emphasized the gravity of the charges and supported the decision to detain him.
