USS Laboon and F/A-18 Super Hornets’ Precision Neutralizes Multiple Threats, Making History

In an exceptional display of precision and expertise, F/A-18 Super Hornets, deployed as part of the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, successfully intercepted a barrage of hostile threats over the Red Sea. The decisive 10-hour engagement, commencing at 6:30 AM local time, saw the USS Laboon (DDG-58) and its complement of F/A-18 Super Hornets thwarting a formidable onslaught.

Their vigilant efforts resulted in the downing of a dozen one-way attack drones, three anti-ship ballistic missiles, and two land attack cruise missiles, maintaining an unblemished record of defense as none of the incoming weapons reached their intended targets.

This historic achievement marks the second confirmed aerial kill achieved by F/A-18E/F Super Hornets, following the downing of a Su-22 over Syria in 2017. Notably, the deployment of Super Hornets in the air defense role, though not unprecedented, underscores the unmatched capability of these aircraft in countering diverse threats. The USS Dwight D.
