UF Scientists in Trouble: Said to Have Put Kids in Cages While at Work!

Friday saw the arrest of two University of Florida scientists for allegedly caging their children while working.

According to a report by FOX 35, the Gainesville Police Department has accused Dustin Huff, 35, and Yurui Xie, 31, of keeping their kids at home in tiny cages while they worked.

The pair reportedly showed the cops their handmade cages during a property search, looking unconcerned. Gainesville Police Sergeant John Pandak was surprised to uncover cages where children were confined, particularly when left home alone.

The University of Florida pair Dustin Huff and Yurui Xie, who sometimes worked overnight, are said to have kept their kids in a homemade cage made of pressure-treated 2x4s, according to the Miami Herald.

University of Florida Couple Faces Child Abuse Charges Over Alleged Cage Incidents

An arrest report talks about the big wooden cage that wasn’t cleaned. One kid supposedly told the cops that he stayed in the cage from the time he got home from school until he left the next morning at 7 a.m. One child also told a school worker that they didn’t want to go home because their parents would lock them up.

The couple was put on administrative leave at the University of Florida. They were charged with child abuse and not taking care of their kids.

The kids, ages 6 and 2, were given to family members who had been checked out.
