In a jaw-dropping turn of events, the airspace of Oregon witnessed a chilling episode as a former Alaska Airlines pilot, Joseph David Emerson, found himself in legal accusation consisting of 84 charges.

The Ex-Alaska Airlines Pilot’s 84-count Indictment

The charges, announced by Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt on December 5, 2023, include one count of endangering aircraft in the first degree and a staggering 83 counts of recklessly endangering others. What’s even more astonishing is what’s not on the list—attempted murder charges were mysteriously dropped.

The incident, which took place on October 22, 2023, aboard a Horizon Air Embraer E175, portrays a strange and unsettling scene. Emerson, who was still employed as a pilot at the time, was granted permission to occupy the jump seat in the cockpit. Unknown to them, this mundane action would rapidly escalate into a struggle for aerial supremacy.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said in a statement that interviews done after the event showed that Emerson said he was in a “dream-like” state when he pulled the fire handles. Officials representing him had said before that he had a “panic attack.”

A drug called Psilocybin is found in psychedelic mushrooms. Reports also say that Emerson took a small amount of it about 48 hours before the trip

Multnomah County Detention Center holds Emerson. His arraignment is slated for December 7, 2023, at 9:30 am.
