SNL’s George Santos, the ‘Proud, Gay Thief,’ Bids Farewell with Hilarious ‘Candle in the Wind’ Parody

Returning for what was probably the final time to the role of recently unemployed former Representative George Santos (R-NY), who was kicked out of the House of Representatives on Friday due to allegations of criminal fraud, Saturday Night Live’s Bowen Yang bid farewell to the media and the country with a parody of Elton John’s tribute to Marilyn Monroe, “Candle in the Wind.”

During the late-night cold open, Yang’s Santos began by lamenting, “What else is new? America hates to see a Latina queen winning,” before addressing the gathered media. “This entire country has been bullying me just because I’m a proud, gay thief.”

“If I’m guilty of anything, it’s for loving too much—slash fraud,” he said.

Midway into his farewell aria, SNL’s Yang removed a swaddled babydoll from a piano, an allusion to Santos’s recent practice of showing off a baby in the halls of Congress.

He crooned, “I feel like I’ve lived my life like a scandal in the wind, never knowing who to cling to when the law closed in.”

He sang, “It seems to me like I’ve lived my life like an evil Forrest Gump; I’m the guy who lied even too much for Donald Trump,” as he moved away from the piano and was joined by backing dancers.

Overwhelming Vote: George Santos Expelled, Events Leading to the Decision

In a resounding vote, more than 300 members of the House of Representatives voted to remove Representative George Santos from office.

Even though the whole House Republican leadership voiced opposition to Santos’ expulsion, he still had some momentum, but it didn’t seem to be enough to save him from the wrath of over 100 of his fellow Republicans.

The decision was ultimately not close; 311 members supported Santos’ expulsion, which is 21 votes more than the 290 required to pass the two-thirds majority threshold.

Following the voting, Santos hurried into a car that took off without answering any questions from the media.

Shortly after winning the election last year, Santos faced criticism after it was discovered through many reports that he had made up a whole biography, including his educational background, employment experience, and even his assertions of being descended from Jews.

Since then, Santos has been accused criminally of a number of offenses, including wire fraud, money laundering, lying before Congress, and stealing public money.

Representative George Santos (R-NY) is picking battles just hours after being expelled from Congress by more than 300 members of the House of Representatives.

As Friday night drew to a close, Santos confronted Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), who had come on a TV program to defend her vote to remove the lawbreaking congresswoman.

Malliotakis said that Santos “used his campaign funds for personal benefit” in a video clip that she sent to her Twitter/X account. She mentioned “Botox, a porn website, and luxury goods like Ferrangamo and Hermes” as reasons that were too strong.

Speaking on behalf of the members who saw his expulsion, she stated that the House “took action and removed him” and that “we believe we’ve seen enough; he does not merit to serve in this body, and his constituents deserve better.”

Santos, who was ejected from the House as the sixth member in history and the first in almost 20 years, criticized his former colleague.

He wrote, “Let’s talk about hypocrisy.” “Can someone ask Nicole MalioStockTips when she became a savant in stock trading?”

He even went so far as to charge the lawmaker of engaging in “insider trading” and likened her alleged stock market success to that of former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul, who last summer invested millions of dollars in Apple and Microsoft shares.

According to Nancy Pelosi’s monthly transaction statement on Thursday, her husband Paul Pelosi exercised the call options for Apple and Microsoft on June 15 and bought shares one day before the options that were purchased on May 24, 2022, expired.

At their respective Friday share prices, the couple’s 5,000 shares each in the two giants would have cost them around $930,000 and $1.7 million in stock, respectively.

During the term of the options contract, the value of 5,000 shares of Apple and Microsoft increased by approximately 35% each; in May of last year, their combined market value was $2.02 million; on Friday, that value was $2.61 million.

“The signature bank trades she did REEKS of insider trading much like Paul Pelosi’s every trade,” Santos stated. “Nicole is in it for herself! Just look at her record, and it speaks for itself. Nicole MalioStockTips is a dirty, dishonorable swamp creature selling the American people down a river for her own benefit.”

He went on: “@NMalliotakis the difference between you and I is that I don’t live in denial; I’m a PROUD GAY man and I’m not afraid to say it. [wink emoji]”

He then revealed his plans to exact retribution a few minutes later.

“On Monday, I will be filing an official complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics against @NMalliotakis regarding her questionable stock trading since joining the Ways and Means committee this Congress,” the tweet that followed says. “Before joining the committee, the congresswoman didn’t have an active trading habit or a high volume stake. The question is, what set of information is she trading with?”
