A self-described alternative healer has been charged in relation to the death of a grandmother in the UK that occurred during a workshop on “slapping therapy” a few years ago.

On October 20, 2016, Danielle Carr-Gomm, 71, was discovered dead in her room at Cleeve House in Wiltshire. At the time, she was attending a workshop on paida lajin therapy in the hopes of discovering a different way to treat her Type 1 diabetes, according to the Telegraph.

According to the outlet, paida lajin is a holistic Chinese treatment in which patients repeatedly slap themselves or receive physical blows to the body in an attempt to draw out blood toxins, or “sha.”

According to the outlet, Hongchi Xiao, 60, the creator of the Pailala Institute and author of “Heal Yourself Naturally Now,” led the session. In it, she talks about the advantages of paida lajin as a means of boosting circulation and drawing out blood toxins.

The Wiltshire Police said that Xiao, of Cloudbreak, California, was charged with manslaughter by gross negligence in connection with Carr-Gromm’s death after being arrested on Thursday when he returned to the UK via an extradition warrant from Australia.

The police confirmed that he will appear before the Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

When The Post asked the Pailala Institute for a statement regarding Xiao’s arrest, the organization did not reply. The institute states that its goal is to “transform our world into a healthier place.”

According to Matthew, Carr-Gromm’s son, she struggled to inject insulin because she was afraid of needles, so she was constantly looking for different ways to treat her diabetes.

Matthew, a resident of New Zealand, said, “She was always keen to find alternative methods of treating and dealing with her diabetes and was very interested in alternative and holistic medicine and therapies.”

“I am aware that she was in a desperate attempt to rid herself of this illness. She was determined that nothing would prevent her from leading a full life and had always led a healthy lifestyle.

The Telegraph reported shortly after Carr-Gromm’s death that the week-long workshop in October was the second by Xiao that she would attend that year. Carr-Gromm had blogged about her decision to enroll in the $951 course.

According to the outlet, the first session happened in Bulgaria and left the septuagenarian with “large areas of my body were bruised blue which indicated that a lot of’sha’ or poisoned blood and toxins had been released.”

Additionally, Carr-Gromm endured “lajin,” which involved being forced to stretch against a hard bench; she recalled that it “felt like agony and eternity.”

Carr-Gromm revealed to readers just before she passed away that she had stopped injecting insulin for two days before starting again when her blood sugar levels became “sky high.”

She wrote, “I’m hoping that a second and maybe a third group workshop will help me to heal completely.”

Carr-Gromm passed away, and Matthew described his mother as a “victim of false hope.”

He bemoaned to the Telegraph, “I am positive that she would still be alive today if she hadn’t gone on this course.”

According to the outlet, Xiao had also been questioned by Australian authorities regarding the death of a seven-year-old boy with diabetes in Sydney prior to Carr-Gromm’s passing.

Xiao has claimed that the slapping method can treat anything from cancer and body pain to paralysis and Alzheimer’s disease, but the BBC reported that the method has been widely criticized for lacking any scientific basis.

“Paida Lajin poses a serious risk. The head information nurse at Cancer Research UK, Martin Ledwick, told the Telegraph in 2019 that “we implore people not to partake in this dangerous practice.”

“The fact that it is being promoted as an alternative to visiting a doctor and that its claims regarding cancer are unsupported by scientific evidence is extremely concerning,” the speaker issued a warning.

Matthew Carr-Gromm lamented his mother’s lack of experience seven years later.

“Mum was living the good life, traveling the world, and having a wonderful home with a partner in recent years. He told the Telegraph, “She still had a lot of life left in her.”

What is slap therapy?

Many people use a variety of skin treatments in an attempt to achieve their ideal of flawless, smooth skin. However, what if I told you that slap therapy, rather than some exotic skin treatment, is the key to getting gorgeous, smooth skin? Surprisingly, because of its positive effects, this skin treatment is becoming more and more popular. Applying skincare products and slapping your face together enhances their effectiveness. This strange and confusing skin treatment has a number of benefits for the skin, including smoothing and brightening the skin.

Said benefits:

  • Skin pore reduction is aided by slap therapy. Gently slapping improves blood circulation, making the skin appear healthier and younger.
  • Use slap therapy after applying the skincare product; this will improve the skin’s absorption of the product. Therapy’s abrupt motion facilitates the opening of the energy channels, which results in firmer skin.
  • Slapping the face can also dilate blood vessels, eliminate toxins and free radicals from the skin, and enhance skin quality.
  • Please refrain from attempting this method if you have sensitive or delicate skin, as it may result in red marks.
