A Powerball winner is preparing to say goodbye to $100,000 in prizes.
The lottery has announced that an unclaimed reward from a 2022 drawing will expire in a few weeks. The Pennsylvania Lottery is asking all citizens to verify their old lottery tickets. There’s $100,000 hanging around with no one to claim it, and time is running out to secure this payday.
The unclaimed ticket was purchased for the December 17, 2022, drawing at Cash Market on Fourth Avenue in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. Four of the five white balls drawn (33, 56, 64, 66, and 68) and the red Powerball (12) were matched by the ticket. The purchaser paid an additional $1 for the Power Play option, which increased the reward from $50,000 to $100,000.
However, if the reward is not claimed, the extra expenditure goes to naught. Lottery winners have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their rewards. In other words, this ticket is about to expire.
What will become of the reward money?
There is always a plan in place for unclaimed prize money at the lottery. “By law, unclaimed, expired lottery prizes remain in the Lottery Fund and are used to support programs benefiting older Pennsylvanians,” according to a statement from the Pennsylvania Lottery.
“Although some lotteries give players only 90 or 180 days to claim a prize, Pennsylvania Lottery draw game prizes may be claimed on a business day up to one year from the drawing date.”
AN EXCLUSIVE HOLIDAY LOTTERY
According to AP News, your chances of winning the normal lottery are one in 292.2 million. However, the Montana Millionaire Program allows people to improve their odds to three in 380,000. More precisely, the government-funded lottery published tickets for their special Christmas drawing once again, and three tickets will be chosen from a total of 380,000 to win $1 million.
Montana’s three new millionaires will be named on December 26th, and tickets sold out in a matter of hours. In addition, two early-bird rewards will be offered ahead of time. If fortunate numbers aren’t your thing, there are other, more straightforward methods to qualify for free money.
What is the Montana Millionaire Program, and how can I play it?
Montana Millionaire is a seasonal Christmas game with a $1,000,000 top prize and a limited quantity of tickets! The drawing takes place on January 1st each year, or as early as December 25th if the game sells out.
The amount of tickets available for purchase varies year to year (180,000 in 2020) – once they’re gone, they’re gone! For the past five years, the game has been completely sold out. If it is sold out, the drawing will take place before January 1st.
To play, simply purchase a ticket from any Montana Lottery retailer. A ticket is equivalent to one play and costs $20. There are no play slips or numbers to fill out.
Tickets are printed in numerical order; therefore, the first person to purchase a ticket will be number 000001, and the last person to purchase a ticket will be number 180000.
If there are any tickets left, the deadline to purchase them is December 31st at 11:59 p.m. MT. The lottery was first suggested in 1985 but was rejected by the state assembly. However, the plan was eventually passed the next year, on November 4, 1986. In 1987, 1.1 million lottery tickets were sold on the first day of the drawing.
Instant Winners
As instant winners, 1,025 lucky tickets are printed at random! 625 tickets will win $500 instantly, and 400 tickets will win $100 instantly. If your ticket is an Instant Winner, a notice with the reward you’ve won will appear toward the bottom of the ticket. A voucher for your reward will also be printed. Winners can receive their reward at the shop where they purchased the ticket right away. Throughout the state, instant wins occur at random while tickets are on sale.
Early-bird Drawings
Because Montana Millionaire is so popular, two additional Early Bird Drawings are held in late November and mid-December (dates may vary from year to year). The first drawing is for $25,000, and the second is for $15,000.
You must verify the Early Bird draw dates ahead of time since only tickets purchased before those dates will be eligible for the Early Bird draws. The odds for these drawings are determined by the number of tickets sold.
Keep your ticket since winners are also eligible for the main Montana Millionaire Grand Prize!
Are tickets sold out this year?
Montana Millionaire tickets sold out in five hours on the first drawing date, November 1, 2023.
Due to the high demand for 2022, this year’s lottery is expected to sell 380,000 tickets, up from 280,000 last year.
Montana Lottery spokeswoman Dan Iverson said the ticket price hike was due to the quick sale of last year’s event, which sold out in 29 hours.
“Last year, the message was pretty clear that more people wanted to play,” Dan remarked.
“There was a decision: do we add an incremental amount of tickets or do we add a lot more tickets? We decided to add a lot more tickets because if we sold the extra 100,000 that we’re doing this year, that would be enough for us to offer that third $1 million grand prize.”
