Armed Robbery at Riverside City College Leads to Juvenile Arrest

According to Riverside City College Police Chief Christopher Cano, a juvenile was taken into custody on Wednesday, Nov. 1, following reports from three ladies that they had been robbed of jewelry at gunpoint in the campus parking garage.

Around midday, the call was received. Following their convergence, Riverside police apprehended a person who fit the suspect description, according to Cano of the RCC. No victims or witnesses came forward at the time.

However, one of the victims ultimately made an appearance at the police station, claiming that three men had stolen their valuables and that one of them was armed, according to Cano. According to Cano, the victim was able to definitely identify the individual who had been held. According to him, police searched the parking structure but were unable to uncover a gun.

That individual was placed in juvenile hall. Since he is a juvenile, his name was kept private.

Even though Cano claimed that these kinds of robberies are uncommon on campus, he nonetheless increased patrols by adding one officer from each of the campuses in Norco and Moreno Valley.

“We want to make sure that we are visible to the students and that we are protecting them,” Cano stated.

Youthful Suspect Apprehended in Connection with Armed Robbery in East Texas

A young suspect is being held by Lufkin Police on Wednesday in connection with an alleged armed robbery that occurred on Southwood Drive.

Lufkin Police Department is accredited as a law enforcement agency.
According to officials, the incident happened at 11:30 a.m. inside the Dollar General shop on Southwood Drive in Lufkin.

The young suspect reportedly used a pistol to threaten a clerk with money demands before making a foot escape from the store without stealing anything. The juvenile suspect was apprehended by responding officers minutes later, according to the Lufkin Police Department.

Since the suspect is a minor, the Lufkin Police Department stated that no more information would be provided.

The Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCA) honored the Lufkin Police Department on Tuesday for becoming an accredited law enforcement agency.

David Thomas, the chief of police of Lufkin, stated, “We have been working toward becoming an accredited agency for some time now.”

Todd Hunter, President of the Texas Police Chiefs Association, stated, “The accreditation program assures this council and the citizens of Lufkin, Texas, that your agency is operating in a manner that reflects the current best practices of Texas law enforcement.”

The process started two years ago with an internal study, and it was completed in August with an on-site evaluation conducted by experienced police chiefs from other Texas agencies, according to City of Lufkin officials.

According to Hunter, who presented the award Tuesday evening during a city council meeting, the assessors assessed the department’s compliance with more than 173 best practices covering all aspects of law enforcement operations, including use of force, protection of citizen rights, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management, and patrol and investigative operations.

In Texas, there are over 2,800 agencies total, but only 197 are accredited. Lufkin is included in the exclusive group.

Juvenile arrests within the week

Late on Sunday, investigators discovered that the primary suspect in an armed robbery is a young person.

Not long after 7:45 p.m., according to the Poynette Police Department, at the Mobil Gas Station on the 500 block of Highway 51 in Poynette, a masked individual with a rifle barged in and demanded stuff.

Shortly after the incident, police say they took a suspect into custody. The juvenile is currently facing charges of armed robbery.

Officials add that the suspect is the only one involved, and there is no threat to the public.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol helped in the arrest.

Another one was the football game between Cambridge-South Dorchester and Easton High School last week, which was canceled in the third quarter due to unrest in the Easton bleachers. While manning security, the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office said that many student altercations occurred throughout the game, resulting in the arrest of four juvenile boys and one juvenile female. The game ended early as a result of police from many agencies working together to disperse the crowd and maintain order.

More people are expected to be arrested.

Lastly, in the shooting death of a sixteen-year-old kid in Montgomery last week, a second suspect has been taken into custody.

According to Montgomery police, a second 16-year-old kid was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of capital murder and attempted murder.

A 15-year-old girl was earlier confirmed by the authorities to have been arrested on the same allegations.

Because of the suspects’ ages, the victim’s identity has not been revealed by the police.

The incident took place around 10:50 a.m. In the 3500 block of Carter Hill Road on Tuesday, October 24. After being transported to a hospital in Montgomery, the little child passed away after two days.

The Montgomery County Youth Detention Facility is the location where the 15-year-old girl is being kept.

The Montgomery County Detention Center is where the 16-year-old suspect is being kept. No more information on the shooting has been made public.
