Anti-Abortion Arsonist Sentenced for Wyoming Abortion Clinic Fire

According to NBC NEWS, Lorna Roxanne Green, an abortion opponent, has been sentenced to five years in prison and three years of probation for setting fire to first full-service Wyoming abortion clinic, delaying its opening by nearly a year. Green, who faced a potential 20-year prison term and a $250,000 fine after pleading guilty in July to setting the fire at Wellspring Health Access in Casper, expressed regret and took responsibility for the arson.

She confessed to breaking in, pouring gasoline inside the building of the Wyoming abortion clinic, and igniting the fire in May 2022. Investigators struggled to identify her until a reward was increased to $15,000 in March, leading to her identification.

The Wyoming abortion clinic, which eventually opened in April, provides surgical and pill abortions, a rarity in Wyoming. Despite new laws attempting to ban abortion in the state, legal challenges have kept it accessible. Wyoming women often travel to neighboring states like Colorado for abortions.

Arsonist Cites Anxiety and Troubled Past as Motive for Wyoming Abortion Clinic Fire

According to AP NEWS, Lorna Roxanne Green, who set fire to the Wyoming abortion clinic, attributed her actions to anxiety and nightmares related to the clinic’s presence. During her sentencing, Judge Johnson emphasized Green’s complex background, including a distant relationship with controlling parents who subjected her to emotional and physical abuse.

Pre-sentencing reports detailed these aspects but were not publicly available. Green confessed to breaking into the Wyoming abortion clinic, spreading gasoline, and igniting the fire, causing extensive damage and a year-long delay in the clinic’s opening.

Despite her seemingly normal social media presence, Green expressed anti-abortion views to investigators and provided details about her preparations for the arson, matching security footage and witness accounts.
