Former UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya will be summoned to court on January 10 for a drunk driving charge in New Zealand which might impose him a maximum penalty of three months jail time or a fine set at $4,500.

UFC Middleweight Champion’s Drunk Driving Report

According to MMA Mania, the incident involving the UFC middleweight champion occurred on August 19, three weeks prior to his UFC 293 title defeat to Sean Strickland in Sydney, Australia. The report further said that the UFC Middleweight Champion was driving on his way home after a dinner with friends when he was spotted at a Random Breath Testing unit. The 34-year-old UFC Middleweight Champion claimed that he was pulled over when he went into the court to admit his charge.

UFC Middleweight Champion’s Charge

The UFC Middleweight Champion was charged with driving a car on Wellesley St. in Auckland with 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood which the legal limit in New Zealand is 50 milligrams, as per New Zealand regulations via Yahoo! Sports. The UFC Middleweight Champion had expressed remorse over his course of action. Meanwhile, the UFC Middleweight Champion’s lawyer, Karl Trotter, sought that no conviction be entered and approved by the judge.
