GB&I Hoped To Obtain The Walker Cup

Gordon Sargent has led the U.S. to win the 49th World Cup, and that’s no cap. Twenty-year-old Sargent from Vanderbilt was able to win all four of his matches which made him eligible to enter the Walker Cup’s exclusive list including Bill C. Campbell, Rickie Fowler, Jack Nicklaus, Maverick McNealy, and Collin Morikawa. With a final score of 14½-11½, U.S. captain Mike McCoy said that GB&I have done their best up to the bitter end and it will be a great ride home with the Walker Cup on their end. Meanwhile, GB&I captain Stuart Wilson stated that perhaps the momentum was always on the U.S. side and their players managed the conditions better than his team. Well, GB&I expected to take home the Walker Cup for the first time since 2015 at Royal Lytham & St. Annes after a momentum of 7½-4½ lead at two Saturday sessions but Team U.S.A. might have made that uncertain at the moment.

U.S. Beat Great Britain & Ireland And Took Home Another Walker Cup

Mccoy claimed that he was a little concerned about winning the Walker Cup because those morning foursomes were not his team’s strength but then he put on two of his best players together so somehow after the morning session he felt relieved. The day after was even better as they outscored GB&I 10-4 over two sessions finally securing the Walker Cup. Well, there’s still the next Walker Cup that will happen at Cypress Point Club on the Monterey Peninsula in California in 2025, and time will only tell.
