A caught-on-cam lay coach in Atlanta awaits simple battery and administrative charges in the district after a video showed him punching his player in the stomach during a high school football game on August 26, Saturday afternoon.
The Lay Coach Was A Volunteer Coach
According to a Yahoo! News report, the incident occurred at Eddie. S Henderson Stadium in midtown Atlanta as part of the Great Atlanta Bash. In the footage, the lay coach was initially seen shouting at his player from Mays High School during the first quarter of the school’s game against Douglas County High School. Afterward, the lay coach subsequently struck the player wearing no. 24 in the stomach as the latter doubled over in agony.
The unnamed lay coach was reportedly not a classroom instructor nor hold a teaching certificate at the school, says an Atlanta Public School spokesperson to Atlanta News First. After the assault, the lay coach was taken into custody by the APS authority and consequently discharged from his coaching duties.
The Lay Coach Was Indicted
The lay coach will face simple battery and administrative charges from the district. Following the lay coach’s incident, the APS spokesperson highlighted that the safety and well-being of all APS students remain a high priority for the district and all APS employees.
