The suspect in two violent incidents that happened on August 17 in Tallahassee, according to a news release from the Tallahassee Police Department, was apprehended on Saturday in Bay County, Florida. Cory Tanner, 39, has been named as the suspect.
Police: Tanner shot the man in the head before running away
According to a news release from TPD, Tanner was soon identified as the suspect who is suspected of verbally fighting with a man in a wooded location at around 4 p.m. and then striking him with an axe. That man was injured severely and sent to the hospital.
Reports from WCTV said that Tanner was also identified as the culprit who, less than an hour later, engaged in another verbal altercation with a different individual nearby. According to the police, Tanner shot the man in the head before running away. Later, the victim passed away in the hospital.
That evening, the Tallahassee Police Department issued a warning urging all homeowners along North Monroe Street in the vicinity of Mission Road, Fred George Road, and Old Bainbridge Road to proceed with caution. The suspect’s identity or potential description were never disclosed.

Tanner held in the Bay County Jail
On August 19, two days later, the US Marshals found Tanner in Bay County, Florida, and without incident, he was taken into custody. Tanner was being held in the Bay County Jail as of the last report while he awaited extradition to Leon County where he will be charged with murder, aggravated assault with a handgun, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Prior convictions for Cory Tanner included those for battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and child abuse. Some of those incidents began in Leon County in 2009, reports by WCTV.
