During recent international talks hosted in Saudi Arabia, China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, conveyed to his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, that China remains impartial regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This communication comes just a day after a Chinese delegation participated in these international discussions involving Ukraine but excluding Moscow, CNN reported.
International Talks In Saudi
In a phone call between the diplomats, Wang Yi emphasized the trustworthiness and reliability of the partnership between China and Russia. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to an independent and impartial stance on the Ukraine crisis, advocating for peace international talks, and a political resolution.
The two-day international talks, which took place in Saudi Arabia, brought together around 40 nations, including key allies of Ukraine like the United States, Britain, and Germany, as well as several Middle Eastern nations and India. The participating countries expressed the importance of international dialogue in achieving a common ground for peace.
China’s involvement in these international talks was perceived as significant progress by Ukraine and its Western allies, who have long hoped that China could play a role in encouraging Russia toward a peaceful resolution.
Despite China’s strengthening ties with Russia and President Xi Jinping’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, China’s participation in these international talks could potentially indicate a shift in its position on the conflict.
International Talks For Peace
China’s diplomatic approach in the Ukraine crisis aligns with its proposal for a 12-point position on a political settlement, which calls for peace international talks but does not include the withdrawal of Russian troops, a key point of contention.
The call between Wang and Lavrov also highlighted their shared vision for a multi-polar world and the democratization of international relations, indicating their alignment on global affairs. This communication coincided with Wang’s reappointment as China’s foreign minister following the unexpected removal of his predecessor, Qin Gang.
As China’s involvement in international talks evolves, its stance on the Ukraine conflict and its collaboration with Russia continue to be subjects of international interest and speculation.
