Police in the Bahamas were able to thwart the plot by acting on intelligence they had gathered during a separate criminal investigation when they found crucial information on a phone that was recovered during an investigation into a recent local business break-in, a Bahamian police source told CNN.

Bethel and Newbold Jr. were also detained by police and are accused of planning a murder. The three accused were flown to Nassau, the country’s capital.

The accused allegedly planned to murder the spouse on July 16 while vacationing together in the Abaco Islands, according to the prosecution.

The insider, who spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity, claimed that written texts found on the phone showed the existence of the sinister plan. The identity of the phone’s owner is still a mystery. Due to the ongoing investigation, the police source declined to provide any additional information on that subject.

Court Hearing on Adulterous Conduct

In a Friday arraignment, attorneys appeared on behalf of the defendants in court, according to court records. The suspects were remanded to the Bahamas correctional facility until a court hearing on October 5 without being obliged to make a plea to the allegations, reports on LOOP.

According to social media posts, Lindsay and Robert Shiver both attended Auburn University and reside in Thomasville.

Based on a complaint published on the Thomas County, Georgia, Clerk of Courts website, Robert Shiver filed for divorce on April 5, 2023, and his wife followed suit on April 6.

Robert Shiver argued in court records obtained by CNN that Lindsay Shiver’s “adulterous conduct” was the cause of the divorce and that the couple’s union was irretrievably shattered.

Lindsay Shiver claims in her complaint that she racked up debt that was beyond her capacity to pay, and she wants Robert Shiver to be held accountable.

CNN has gotten in touch with the divorce attorneys representing the two parties.
