Mass Shooting at Muncie, Indiana Street Party Leaves Community in Shock

CNN reported that just after one in the morning, The Star Press reported that Muncie police responded to numerous reports of gunfire on the city’s east side. Police stated in a news release that there was no current threat to the neighborhood and that “multiple” people, some of whom were badly injured, had been hurt.

There was no information on who was being sought or apprehended. Based to a statement from Muncie police released on Facebook, “multiple agencies were contacted to assist due to the number of victims and nature of the incident.”

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, many police officers from the nearby town of Eaton were among those that helped. Police Chief Jay Turner of Eaton described the incident as a “mass shooting.”

Victims From Indiana Party Shooting

In a report from CBS NEWS, police did not disclose the number of injured, but Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie officials told The Associated Press that 19 victims were treated in their emergency room for shooting-related injuries, and 13 remained there as of Sunday morning in stabilized condition.

According to CBS Indianapolis affiliate WTTV, a witness at the hospital recounted commotion in the emergency room as more than 100 individuals — many of them victims transported by private automobiles — descended on the institution.

Reported to The Star Press, the deceased man was identified as 30-year-old Joseph E. Bonner III by Delaware County Coroner Gavin Greene.
