After three days of debate, the 12-member panel failed to agree on a decision. Prosecutors in Broward County, who had originally requested the death sentence, are probably going to decide to retry the case in front of a fresh jury. To find a prisoner guilty or innocent, the jury must reach unanimous agreement.

When the jury announced they were deadlocked, Broward Circuit Judge John Murphy constantly ordered them to continue debating but gave in when they returned a third time.

From CNN, YNW Melly, who’s real name Jamell Demons, killed Christopher Thomas Jr. and Anthony Williams while they were in a Jeep. Thomas and Williams both belonged to the YNW group, also as YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy, respectively.

Uncovering the Truth Behind the Murder Trial of Rapper YNW Melly

Lawyers argued that the story lacked credibility since Demons and the victims were close friends, despite the prosecution’s assertion that the shooting was a gang-related incident. Henry will face a separate trial despite being accused as an accomplice in the crime.

Attorneys informed the jury that YNW Melly’s motivation for the crime was not immediately evident.

After breaking out in 2017, YNW Melly joined with Kanye West on “Mixed Personalities,” which was published in January 2019—a month before Demons, 24, was detained on suspicion of murder.
