Cody Arnold’s Point-Blank Shooting Incident

Cody Arnold, 31, was charged with attempted murder, criminal threats, and gun-related enhancements for an alleged shooting incident in Santa Cruz County.

According to Santa Cruz Sentinel report, the incident started when Arnold’s neighbor yelled at him and asked him to slow down because Arnold was driving too quickly through the neighborhood at the 2800 block of Lakeview Drive on April 7 in the evening.

Later in the same night, the neighbor called Arnold’s father, who happened to be his landlord, to complain about Arnold’s driving but to no avail because the father was out for dinner.

Arnold called back through their landline and that’s when the neighbor heard him yell in the background, making threats and calling him names.

Arnold then tried to kick the front door of his neighbor’s studio apartment; the neighbor called 911 at 8:00 p.m. but while waiting for the police to come, Arnold approached from his nearby unit for confrontation and punched him, the neighbor landed a punch back.

The neighbor apparently kept silent and refrained from retaliating when Arnold allegedly threatened to kill him and twice drew out a knife.

Cody Arnold’s and the Neighbor’s Mismatch Claim

Arnold’s case was ruled by a judge on Friday, July 14, and will be up for arraignment on August 14. He is currently in the custody of Santa Cruz County Jail without bail after his defense attorney withdrew the request for one.

Meanwhile, Santa Cruz Sentinel report states that attorneys and witnesses argue over whether the neighbor’s account of Arnold threatening him with a 3-inch-blade knife before the shooting was supported by the evidence and why the neighbor did not immediately acknowledge using a cable bike lock as self-defense.
