Rural Metro Fire responded to a car crash incident at approximately 11:30 a.m. which occurred near the intersection of Crismon and Quarterline roads. The incident not only caused a power outage in East Mesa but also led to a few small brush fires in the vicinity but was fully restored after.

Car Crash Caused Widespread Power Outage in East Mesa

The power outage in East Mesa affected a significant number of Salt River Project (SRP) customers.

According to 12News,  SRP confirmed that the power outage in East Mesa affected approximately 4,000 customers in the area stretching from Ellsworth to Meridian Roads, and from Broadway to Brown Roads.

The crash’s timing was particularly challenging as it coincided with a record-breaking day of 118-degree temperatures. SRP customers endured over seven hours without power, leaving them to search for ways to stay cool and comfortable.

The accident, which involved downed powerlines near University Drive and Crismon Road, may have resulted in injuries, though specifics on potential casualties were not immediately available.

Fortunately, the brush fires caused by the fallen lines were swiftly extinguished as well as the power outage in East Mesa.

Power Outage in East Mesa Fully Restored

According to AZ Family, crews worked tirelessly in the scorching afternoon heat to resolve the issue of power outage in East Mesa, with power finally being fully restored just before 7 p.m.

Amid the power outage in East Mesa, some residents were resourceful enough to have generators at home, while others relied on their cars’ air conditioning to seek respite from the extreme temperatures.

One resident, who identified himself only as “Chuck,” shared his concerns about keeping his perishable food safe during the outage.

To assist those in need of relief from the heat and lack of electricity, Rural Metro set up a cooling station at 102nd Street and E. Quarterline Road.

In response to the challenging circumstances, Rural Metro set up a temporary cooling station to provide assistance to affected individuals in the area. Additionally, SRP offered to reimburse people up to $10 for purchasing ice to help them cope with the heat while awaiting the restoration of the power outage in East Mesa.
