A guaranteed income program in Philadelphia called Philly Joy Bank will have a big launch next year 2024. Philly Joy Bank is designed to aid Philadelphians who lack help for women who are pregnant and also their babies.

How Much Does Philly Joy Bank Give?

The city of Philadelphia has the highest mortality rate for infants among the 10 largest cities in the country. Sadly, black mothers and babies have the greatest risk of poor birth outcomes, NextCity.Org reported.

Manitoba’s data was the evidence-based backbone of the Philly Joy Bank which is set to launch in Philadelphia. Philly Joy Bank will provide $1,000 per month to 250 mothers for 18 months. Philly Joy Bank will start giving assistance starting pregnancy until the baby’s first year.

Philly Joy Bank will not restrict the mothers from spending their money, it means they can use it for whatever they need to buy or what they want. Programs like Philly Joy Bank will surely provide emotional relief to mothers and help them make ends meet.

Through the work of the Philadelphia Health Department‘s “The CAN” or “PhillyCAN”, Philly Joy Bank was made into reality. The PhillyCAN is a group who are focused to reduced infant mortality and racial disparities in Philadelphia.

Who Are the People Behind Philly Joy Bank?

Since 2015, the group includes people from different sectors who come together and join for the same cause. People behind this group are community lived experience experts, academic researchers, health systems, payors, nonprofits, social service agencies, and the government sector.

Philly Joy Bank’s mothers will be coming from the three Philadelphia zip codes which were identified with high rates of infant low birth weights, these are Cobbs Creek, Nicetown-Tioga, and Strawberry Mansion.

The initial funding for Philly Joy Bank is more than $3 million that came from Spring Point Partners and William Penn Foundation but last week, The Barra Foundation committed another $500,00.
