The county of Los Angeles in California launched a Guaranteed Income pilot program called “Breathe” that aims to provide $1,000 of monthly payments to eligible recipients for two years. The Guaranteed Income pilot program will choose 200 eligible recipients from applicants who have received foster care as a child.

According to Notheis, the Guaranteed Income pilot program opened its applications on June 20 and subsequently closed them on July 3.

Guaranteed Income Pilot Program Eligibility

An article in MARCA states that to qualify for the Guaranteed Income pilot program, an individual must be at least 21 years old and must not turn 24 before September 1 this year. In addition, an individual must have received care from the county’s Department of Children and Family Services on or after turning 18.

Other eligibility requirements for the Guaranteed Income pilot program include earning an income at or less than 100% of the area median income for a household with one member. For a household with two or more, the income must reach 120% of the area median income. Ultimately, an individual must have been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and must have not applied to another Guaranteed Income pilot program.
