Kathleen Sorensen was sentenced to prison for making false claims of a crime that involved kidnapping. Reports say the social media influencer accused a Latino couple of attempting to kidnap her children at a craft store in California.
On December 7, 2020, social media influencer Kathleen Sorensen, 31, reported to the authorities that a Latino couple attempted to kidnap both of her children at a craft store in Petaluma, California. About a week later, the social media influencer narrated the alleged attempted kidnapping in Instagram videos that went viral with millions of views.According to Acosta, the social media influencer stated in the Instagram videos that she and her children were followed by the couple and tried to approach them in the store’s parking lot. Furthermore, the social media influencer also stated that the man attempted to hold her child in a stroller before she was able to scream for help.
Social Media Influencer Sentenced to Prison
According to Joseph, on June 29, the social media influencer was sentenced to prison after facing one count of knowingly making a false report of a crime. The Office of the District Attorney stated that 60 days of the social media influencer’s sentence could be spent in a work release program.
In addition, the social media influencer was also placed on a year of informal probation. This suggests that the social media influencer will have no presence online, agree to search and seizure without warrants, finish an implicit bias training of 4 hours, and pay various fees and fines.
