On July 4, the Los Angeles City Council will consider a motion that will codify the major provisions of Mayor Karen Bass’ executive directive. Reportedly, the direct order was issued to modernize the development of affordable housing initiatives.

An article in Audacy states that the motion was introduced by Council President Paul Krekorian and Council members Nithya Raman and Katy Yaroslavsky. The motion intends to permanently exempt the affordable housing initiatives from Los Angeles’ extensive review process. Fortunately, upon signing the directive, the approval time for the projects was shortened from six months to 37 days.

According to an article in Business Wire, the motion for the housing initiatives was introduced to maintain the provisions of the directive. Otherwise, it would expire without action from the Council. Fortunately, the motion was authorized by the Housing and Homeless Committee last week.
