Curtis Brown, a Florida inmate currently serving a lengthy three-decade sentence, has been handed an additional one year and three months in federal prison.
Convicted Florida Inmate Admits Making Threats
The sequence of events unfolded in November 2021, when Florida inmate Brown, detained at the Florida State Prison in Raiford for drug trafficking, penned a handwritten letter addressed to a federal judge’s chambers.
In this letter, Florida inmate Brown expressed his frustration, citing the judge’s alleged refusal to grant him the relief he believed he deserved. Disturbingly, Brown stated that he had decided to utilize his federal stimulus money to pay someone to carry out the judge’s murder.
According to prosecutors, the letter explicitly outlined the Florida inmate’s intentions.
If he couldn’t reach the judge in time, Brown indicated that he would settle for targeting a member of the judge’s family, U.S. News reported.
The letter, signed by Brown himself, ominously warned that keeping the matter confidential was crucial; otherwise, the situation would escalate further.

Florida Inmate Receives Extended Sentence
According to court records, the Florida inmate Curtis Brown, 35 years old, was sentenced on Tuesday in Jacksonville federal court following his guilty plea in December.
This new sentence comes as a result of the Florida inmate’s disturbing and chilling threats to kill a federal judge and his family.
He admitted to making threats to murder a federal judge in retaliation for the judge’s performance of official duties, as well as mailing a threatening letter.
Florida inmate Brown, who has been imprisoned since 2006 following his conviction on multiple drug charges, was originally slated for release from state prison in 2034, as indicated by Florida Department of Corrections records.
