Chicago Woman, Son Accused in Restaurant Shooting Sues City Following Drop of Murder Charges

Carlishia Hood sued the city of Chicago for being charged in connection with the death of Jeremy Brown. The murder charges against the Chicago woman and her unnamed son were dropped after a video showed that Brown initiated the assault.

A video posted on social media showed that on June 18, Jeremy Brown, 32, was yelling at and threatening Carlishia Hood, 35, inside a fast-food restaurant in South Side, Chicago. However, Brown proceeded to punch the Chicago woman in the face and head multiple times.

According to Sorace, the Chicago woman then texted her 14-year-old son to come inside the restaurant. Upon entering, the teenager allegedly shot the assailant in the back. Brown ran away from the restaurant, but Hood and her son followed him outside.

The prosecutors accused the Chicago woman of urging her son to continue shooting the assailant as they pursued him. In the end, Brown was declared dead at the scene and Hood and her son turned themselves over to the authorities.

Chicago Woman Sues the City

An article in Chicago Defender states that Hood faced charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and first-degree murder last week. In addition, she was held on a $3 million bail. However, after the video surfaced on social media, the prosecutors were inclined to drop the charges against the Chicago woman.

Reports say on June 26, Hood was released from the Cook County Jail. Nonetheless, a day after the video surfaced, the Chicago woman filed a lawsuit against the city for intentional infliction of emotional distress, false arrest, and malicious prosecution.
