4 Parental Rights Bills Signed by Texas Governor to Reshape Education

Governor Greg Abbott signed four parental rights bills to reshape the education in Texas. These bills are intended to empower parents who deserve access to what are taught to their children at school.

On June 13, Governor Greg Abbott of Texas signed four parental rights bills intended to empower the parents in the state. Abbott stated that he believes parents deserve access to the school libraries, curriculum, and lessons taught to their children at school.

An article in the official website of Governor Greg Abbott states that during the signing ceremony, the governor was joined by lawmakers, parents, and advocates in the state. Senior Fellow Corey DeAngelis of American Federation For Children expressed his sentiments toward the legislation stating that is a huge step towards ensuring parental rights in education.

Four Parental Rights Bills

According to Nelson, Abbott signed two parental rights bills, House Bill 900 and 1605, that tackle reviewing instructional materials and prohibiting sexually explicit books. Several states, especially those governed by Republicans, have already implemented measures to filter books that are considered inappropriate.

In addition, the House Bill 1926 pursues the empowerment of the parents whose children require special needs. Lastly, the House bill 3803 offers parents the choice, instead of school administrators, to determine whether their children should repeat a certain grade level.
