A Florida woman who killed her black neighbor by shooting her through the door won’t face any murder charges, due to “insufficient evidence” to proceed with charges of second-degree murder, the state attorney William “Bill” Gladson cited.
Florida Woman Who Shot Black Mom Neighbor Will Not Face Murder Charges
The state will instead charge the Florida woman Susan Lorincz, 58 years old with one count of manslaughter with a firearm and one count of assault in connection with the death of Ajike Owens, State Attorney Bill Gladson said in a statement released Monday.
Susan Lorincz, a white woman, fatally shot the Black mother in a conflict over Owens’s children on June 2. Owens had knocked on Lorincz’s door to confront her after her children said Lorincz yelled, tossed a roller skate, and swung an umbrella at them. Owen’s 10-year-old son was reportedly there in the scene standing behind her as she was shot to death.
Lorincz faces up to 30 years in prison if she’s found guilty of all charges during the deadly shooting that happened. Despite a plea from Owens’ family to bring murder charges, the prosecutor cited “insufficient evidence” to proceed with charges of second-degree murder, a first-degree felony.

Due To Lack Of Evidence, The Florida Woman Won’t Be Charged With Murder
State Attorney William Gladson wrote in a release that as deplorable as the defendant’s actions were in this case, there is insufficient evidence to make a murder case against the white Florida woman accused of fatally shooting her Black neighbor through a door.
Authorities have said that Lorincz shot Owens through a closed front door of her Ocala home after Owens confronted her about harassing her children. However, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said that over the past several years, Lorincz had become furious at Owens’ children, who would usually play in a field close to her property.
Monday Owens’ mother, Pamela Dias, spoke out following the announcement that her daughter’s death is still not being taken seriously.
Lorincz is currently being held at the Marion County Jail. Lorincz’s attorney, Amanda Sizemore, had no comment on the charges, according to CNN
