Reward money worth $6,000 is being offered to any person with information that directs to an arrest of whoever fatally shot a Louisiana Black Bear located in Lincoln Parish last month.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced a report on Thursday about a black bear found dead in Ruston. Hence, the Humane Society of the U.S. and the Safari Club International Acadiana Chapter are each offerings up to $2,500 for information in the case, while Louisiana Operation Game Thief is offering up to $1,000 to cover the $6,000 reward money.
The agents responded to a complaint on May 12, according to AP News. Hunting a bear during a closed season is punishable by law and a fine of $900 to $950 and up to 120 days in jail. In addition, if found guilty of fatally killing a black bear, the person will be responsible to pay restitution of $10,000, which represents the bear’s replacement value.

The hotline and the state’s tip411 program, where residents or any concerned citizen can text LADWF and their tip to 847411, are monitored 24 hours a day. Informants are permitted to remain anonymous.
