Trial Begins for Shooting Suspect Who Injured Baby In California In 2019

Marcos Echartea was accused of shooting a 10-month-old baby in California back in 2019. Reports say a bench trial for the shooting suspect began on June 1.

In June 2019, Marcos Echartea, 27, was accused of shooting a car three times in Fresno, California. Reports say one bullet passed through the window of the driver’s side and struck a 10-month-old baby in the head while sitting on the lap of her mother.

According to Jacob, prior to the incident, the shooting suspect took an interest in the baby’s mother and made intimate advances. The mom immediately left with her friend, but Echartea could not apparently handle rejection, so he fired shots at the vehicle. Fortunately, the baby survived but had to undergo brain surgery to remove fragments of the bullet.

Trial for Shooting Suspect

An article in ABC30 states that on June 1, a bench trial for the shooting suspect began with Defense Attorney Jane Bolger contradicting the statements of what happened on the night of the incident. Bolger states that Echartea was extremely intoxicated and there was no one else to neutralize the situation.

However, Deputy District Attorney Jenny Volanti of Fresno County argued that the evidence they have will reveal that the shooting suspect was wearing the same clothes at the party and had gunshot residue. The baby’s family was not in court yesterday, but the mother had testified during a preliminary hearing last 2020.
