In a heartbreaking incident, a 1-year-old child dies after being left inside a car for nine hours while their foster mother worked a shift at a local hospital in Washington State.

1-Year-Old Child Forgotten in Hot Car

According to authorities, the foster mother of the 1-year-old child allegedly forgot about the toddler in the vehicle before going into Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, People reported.

Puyallup Police Captain Don Bourbon disclosed that the mother discovered the 1-year-old child in the hot car after finishing her shift and rushed them inside the hospital.

Despite efforts to save the 1-year-old child’s life, they were unresponsive and ultimately did not survive.

While the outside temperature in Puyallup was in the mid-70s that day, the temperature inside the vehicle exceeded 100 degrees, as determined by investigators. The foster mother worked as a social worker at the hospital.

Investigation Continues Regarding 1-Year-Old Child’s Death

In response to the tragic incident, Good Samaritan Hospital issued a statement expressing their condolences and providing support to their employees affected by the incident. The hospital is collaborating with the ongoing investigation.

The foster mother and her husband, who was caring for the 1-year-old child, are cooperating with authorities. Another child in their care has been returned to child services, according to reports.

The investigation about the 1-year-old child’s death is still ongoing, and the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office will determine whether charges will be filed once the investigation concludes.

Police Captain Bourbon stressed the importance of taking a step back, slowing down, and ensuring the well-being of our families and loved ones in light of this unfortunate incident.

He urged everyone to be vigilant and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, regardless of the outside temperature.
