Tax Cuts May Require Democrats To Trim Draft Fundings In The State

Several tax cuts have been passed by Democrats, including slashing taxes on some retirement income, expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit match, and have determined a glut of tax money would cut the income tax by 0.2 percent for this year.

The State treasurer Rachel Eubanks’s statements after the Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference announced that they had great news about Michigan’s economy that’s continued to display signs of growth and resilience.

State budget director Chris Harkins recognized that the budgets presented by Whitmer and legislature may not all be appropriate under the funds available, but was loathe to put a number to how much allocations might need to shrink.

The Inflation Last Year Triggered An Automatic Reduction In The State Income Tax

The  Michigan government funds took in outpaced inflation last year to the end that it triggered an involuntary reduction in the state income tax, which Harkins said hadn’t been built into the budget and they are just working with the legislature and make sure that the 2024 budget that meets all the revenues.
