A Guaranteed Income Pilot program in the city of Minneapolis in Minnesota was launched to help households with low incomes pay for basic necessities like food and rent. Nonetheless, the financial assistance is also intended to supplement long-term investments such as vehicle repairs, tuition, and college savings.

According to Blake, payments from the Guaranteed Income Pilot program have been distributed starting in June 2022. Reportedly, payments are scheduled to be distributed every month for 24 months. This means that the monthly payments will continue until June next year.

Who will qualify for the Guaranteed Income Pilot program?

According to Notheis, to be able to qualify for the Guaranteed Income Pilot program, an individual must have been 18 years or older by January 1, 2022. In addition, they must reside in Minneapolis and can show proof that they have suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic. These problems include losing jobs, losing access to child care or transportation, and paying higher healthcare expenses.

Furthermore, a household must earn an annual income at or below 50% of the area median income for Minneapolis. This means that a household with two members must earn below $46,950, while a household with four must earn below $58,650.
