Homeschooling parents in Georgia were arrested after their malnourished 10-year-old son was found wandering the street searching for food.
10-Year-Old Boy Searched for Food
A 10-year-old boy was able to escape from their house and wandered along the street to search for food. Authorities in Peach State said on Tuesday that the boy also begged not to return to their residence. It was then that they suspected that the boy was maltreated.
In a published article in Law & Crime, Spalding County District Attorney Marie Broder said during a press conference, “This child was, simply put, being starved to death, and it is tragic. I truly believe that if he had not gotten out of that home, this would be a very different case.”
Griffin Police Department Investigator Jodi Spears said that the boy was very thin when the officers found him. Spears told the news outlets that the 10-year-old boy was only 36 pounds when he was taken to the hospital and had discolored skin.
