On March 29, 2021, authorities responded to reports about a dead body in an alley. Upon arriving at the crime scene, they discovered a victim with several gunshot wounds and 10 casings nearby on the ground. Surveillance footage captured revealed that the shooting suspects were two men who had gunned the victim to death. Furthermore, the footage revealed the men talking with the victim for several minutes before they stepped back and extended their arms that were each holding a handgun.

According to Wehner, a criminal complaint stated that the victim was unarmed while standing near an SUV when the shooting suspects fired their weapons and drove away from the scene in the said SUV. A woman who was captured in the footage was also questioned by investigators upon seeing her speak with the suspects before the incident. According to the woman, she and the victim ran into the suspects at a bar and one of them argued with the victim.
